The Abandoned Showreel

This began as a showreel project. I had the idea of building a new business showreel around occult symbolism and sexually charged hand drawings (I don’t know what I was thinking at the time). I realised after a while that my client work would sit VERY awkwardly in that context, so I had to abandon the showreel idea.

I still loved what I did, and consigning it to the proverbial attic seemed such a waste, so I repurposed it as a mini animation with a 70s-style horror soundtrack and a distressed film look.

I’ve been quietly obsessed with the distressed film look since I saw the music promo for Judith by A Perfect Circle, directed by David Fincher in 2000, and I’m a massive fan of modern takes on 70s horror cinema. Films like The House of the Devil (Ti West, 2009), Suspiria (Luca Guadagnino, 2018) and Hereditary (Ari Aster, 2018). The 70s seem so distant and bleak.
