I love working with designers. They make me look good. And, if I dare say, I make them look good by bringing their boards to life. And I love the style of this board.

I was given the storyboard as an Illustrator file and a finalized voice-over when I began work on this animation. Getting a finalized voice-over is a rare treat.  If you’re working with a temporary voice-over, you know you’re going to have to make timing changes.

Even with that finalized VO, though, I built the project expecting amends down the line. That meant I tried to anticipate where changes might be made. That meant the project took slightly longer to set up, but when the inevitable amends did come, I could make them quickly.

In a nutshell, I animated each storyboard frame first in its own comp, then worked on the transition between the comps. When several changes to the VO did come in, I could, generally, shift those layers in a master comp without having to mess around with keyframes on multiple layers.

Since this project, I’ve changed my workflow when it comes to timing, utilizing the dynamic link between Premiere and After Effects. Instead of doing a RAM preview in AE, you press Play in Premiere. It’s more immediate. Also, managing audio is MUCH easier in Premiere.
