I’m writing this in 2023, over a decade after I did this job, yet I have distinctive memories of it. For one, I remember working remotely on a bank holiday Monday with them to finish it in time.
Mighty Fine Productions were the second client I got after I began freelancing. We worked together between 2011 and 2018. They are awesome.
Mighty Fine asked if I could add CG cars onto live-action plates for this job. I didn’t have much experience with VFX then, and I said so, but they trusted me.
I knew I would need 3D cars rendered in Cinema 4D, and I knew I would have to match move the live-action plates. At the time After Effects didn’t have camera tracking, so I learnt PF Track, which took a day to get the basics. We bought the cars.
It took a lot longer than what I billed for, but I didn’t think it was fair at the time to charge the client for R&D.
